Ronin Katana's Budget Review
by
Patrick Richardson

This is my second cutting sword. I have two Iaito now, a waki and 26" katana (which is the fullest length I can use.). Both Iaito are high quality. I got the Katana from RK's parts sale and modified it (that is another project to be posted in the thaw. I liked the feel and quality so much that I thought 'well RK's cutting swords are probably pretty awesome', and as I have become accustom, I was correct. (Keep in mind I am not always right I simply choose to forget and ignore the other times or blame circumstances and others. It is a life-style choice, not everyone can do it.)
Anyway the sword came very promptly and with the free hammer and gloves. Mine are orange and that is popular in Tennessee. I could hardly contain myself as it came a si had to leave for my evening classes. I skipped that class, not just because I had a new katana, but I like to think that my good luck kept me home.

Historical accuracy is beyand my current education. So I will say this the sword is a modern mass prodcution item, a good one. That is all I know about that.

Thanks for the extra stuff. That is just plain nice of RK.

I loved this sword as soon as I opened the box. It was lighter than I expected and felt very solid at the same time. I was able to extract that sweet slicing noise with no bo-hi on the first swing.

I used that hammer and gloves without hesitation.

Here are the stats:

It is 1045 carbon steel, wrap is cotton, the panel are real string-ray (I believe) The tsuba kicks buttocks (plural) I think it may be brass.

I will have to get back to the measurements. This is my rough draft.

Handling was great. I cannot use it for advanced because it is a little too long for my reach. I can however feel how light and fast it cuts. My targets consisted of a case of water and several hard plastic juice containers. I was also able to thrust through a 10 oz., fist sized, bottle of water. Assembly and reconstruction was a breeze. I once again felt good about taking it apart and getting it all back together again.

Here are the three videos that I got before I became to excited to films anymore. The other guy is one of my friends that did not make it to the RWBC (Road Wolves' Backyard Cutters) lake fest.

His maiden cut. It cut through the cap like my teeth through a chz. burger.

Pro's
It is only $165 USD shipped.
It is well constructed
Cool looking (I like the double finish, Shiny and cutting shine)
Handles well and that includes thrusting
Silk ito

Con's
May or may not be historically accurate
I do not really have a bad thing to say

After this we put up the camera which is prone to freezing and cut freely. We are a bunch of newbies who are seriously hooked. If you are too or you are one of the wizened veterans who so freely aid the novices I recommend you take a good look at this Ronin Katana. In case of ninja zombie clowns. 1)It comes with a hammer for distracting purposes 2)then move in with the razor edged katana. But what are the gloves for? Clean up?

What is good in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and the lamentation of the women.
