As requested by chop chop i decided to skip the work for an hour and post this review, who said the pen was mightier than the sword!! No pics yet, soon as i get the time, anyway for the review. I got my yamakami a couple of weeks ago and as soon as i picked up the cardboard box i knew that there was something special inside,it immediately felt heavier.Upon opening the box and removing the katana my first impression was the overall size of the saya compared to my other "standard" katanas, much larger but as expected.Upon removal and after taking off the grease i think the first thought that came to mind was"oh my god what a beast"This really is a beautiful katana and the extra weight,3lbs 13oz with saya and 2lbs 15oz without by my scales, really does not make much difference to the handling after a few minutes and before anything else i just had to go outside and dispatch some water bottles and a few willow saplings then straight on to some double and triple mats, what a pleasure and so easy,i think i shall be cutting some mats around bamboo next but not yet, must save for some more mats first.Back inside and time to dismantle and straight away only two gentle taps and the tsuba was off, first big improvement. The blade is very appealing to the eye and i quite like the unflared tip on this one and the etched hamon is very nicely done.Second suprise was the very nice condition of the tang, very clean with nice filing. The tsuka next, very solid and intact inside with no visible cracks and very even fitting,as for the ito very, very tight and the newer shape tsuka core with the same inlaid creates a very comfortable feel. The yamakami tsuba is very simple but nicely in proportion to the rest of the katana and smooth against the hand. The actual fit inside the saya is spot on with no adjustment needed and once again the rather large sageo does not look out of place on this oversize saya.I will be posting some pics asap if someone could tell me how to do it please. Please believe me when i say that i must go know because my yamakami ko katana has just arrived in the post,Hee Hee!!! No honestley it has and i shall try and find the time to review it and post pics of both very soon.Anyway this was my first review and i hope it was ok,i must go now,got to find something to cut

Hello again, handforgedkatana, the jealousy is building. I am a big fan of heavy blade katana so I am quite eager to see those piccies. Cheers for the response, I am getting closer to one each day.
I use,http://photobucket.com/ you just open an album(account). It's free. Then you just e-mail your photos as an attachment, to your allocated albums e-mail address. When you sign in, you will see all your pictures with an IMG code underneath each picture. You just CUT and PASTE the code to the message box in POST REPLY. That is all I usually do. Works with avatars as well.

Cheers mate, The pictures are great. Think you forgot the front bracket on a few in the middle . Because on the thinness of the blade , do you find it feels solid when you give it a swing, or is there any wobbling from blade on cutting ??!

Hi chopchop, I would say that this blade is by far much more rigid than the standard cheness blades and i was unable to feel any flex on the blade when swung. To be fair my other cheness blades are all with fuller and i will say that i sort of still prefer the sound of the blade with fuller but the yamakami makes up for that with its cutting ability. To sum up this blade it is made for tameshigiri and that is what it does, very, very well.

As i said the other day my Yamakami ko katana arrived.I haven`t had much time to do any tameshigiri with it but have spent some time handling and taking a few pics. I must first say that i am biast towards ko katanas as they feel more secure in the hand,or should i say hands and i prefer the balance that is achieved with the longer tsuka. This has been built to the same sort of standard as the katana,my only real niggle would be the finish on the kissagi but nothing that a quick polish won`t sort out, soon as i get a chance i shall post a review but here is a few pics for now.

I think the ko katana feels a bit better as just a one handed sword, but my personal preference is with a heavy blade katana. Mostly due to my physique and height.
