 SGC Tsukikage review
« Thread Started on May 16, 2007, 10:24pm »

This will hopefully clarify some questions concerning the SGC series blades.
Now first off this sword came lightening quick! I ordered it only 4 days ago and it arrived today. I give my thanks to Paul for the speedy delivery. Now I am a pretty well built person so some of this may not pertain to all people.
Now this sword came in a beautiful box and cotton bag with a stand. I take the sword out and to my surprise it felt pretty light considering it's wide blade. I swung it around a little bit to see how it handles and it handled quite well. Now those who own cold steel katanas will be able to understand what i mean perfectly, for those who don't here is a quick review: they are extremely unwieldy and tip heavy but very sturdy and sharp. One of my more expensive blades is my cold steel blade, the Sgc katana felt like a feather in comparison to it. Funny thing is that the sgc sword is actually heavier than the cold steel sword. But it felt lighter due to it's fine center of balance. One of the things that shocked me is that after swinging it around a bit, I picked up the cold steel katana and it felt much lighter than it did originally.
The blade was very nicely done with a good looking etched hamon.
It feels very stable and feels as light as a feather in my hands. It doesn't wobble at all as many would have thought considering it's thin blade. The handle is tightly wrapped with the bamboo pegs stable in place. The tsuba is fine and looks just as advertized. Unfortunitally I couldn't do much back yard cutting with it yet but I will get to it in a few weeks. But fortunitally could test the sharp ness a little by seeing how well it cut through some leaves hanging on a tree.(I know it's not much of a test, but it's the best I could manage at the time) It cut right through the unsupported leaves witch gave me a bit of satisfaction. For what I have seen it do so far I give it a 10 out of 10.

ah yes, the leaf test! I think it is a good test for sharpness, you just quickly slice at the leaf and see how clean the cut is.
